Origin of Alfajor

It’s believed that alfajores were originally from the Middle East derived from the Arabic word “al-hasu” which means filled or stuffed. The original cookie recipe was brought to South America by the Spanish with the invasion of the Moors. These special cookies are usually prepared for Christmas and are made with honey, almonds, and spices. Conversely, the traditional Alfajor prepared in South America.
